Pension System

The Division of Pensions and Benefits has developed a new program for employees to obtain pension and benefit information on line (e.g., loan status, # years of service, etc.). This program is called Member Benefits Online System (MBOS). Go to: www.state.nj.us/treasury/pensions or call the MBOS Help Desk at (609) 777-0534. For additional help, staff members are also encouraged to contact the Division’s Client Relations Bureau at 609-292-7524 or 609-777-1777 for an automated system.

It is recommended by the Division that employees preparing for retirement visit the Division at their offices in Trenton to meet with a retirement consultant for the purpose of discussing the various retirement options and to obtain estimates of retirement benefits under the various options. It is suggested that this visit be made six months prior to the planned date of retirement. The office is located at 20 West Front Street.

While the Board Office is prepared to offer assistance with a variety of pension-related questions and problems, we cannot give advice on specific retirement options.

Staff members who wish to apply for loans from their pension contributions may obtain the appropriate form on the Division of Pensions web site (See above). Pension Division processing will take an average of 4-6 weeks. Information regarding loan balances and payments can be obtained from the Division of Pensions Automated Information System at 609-777-1777.

When a staff member wishes to change a beneficiary for pension purposes because of marriage, divorce, birth or death of a spouse or dependent, the appropriate form may be obtained via www.state.nj.us/treasury/pensions.
